How do I check the resolution of a downloaded TikTok?
On iPhone
Open the video in Photos and swipe up, or tap ⓘ, to see its dimensions.
On Android
In Google Photos, open the video, tap ⋮ → Details.
On PC or Mac
Right-click the file → Properties → Details (Windows) or Get Info (Mac).
What resolution are TikTok videos?
TikTok is vertical-first, and most videos come in one of three sizes.
| Label | Pixels | Where you’ll see it |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p (Full HD) | 1080×1920 | Creators who upload in HD |
| 720p (HD) | 720×1280 | Default for many uploads |
| 540p (SD) | 576×1024 | Low-bandwidth versions |
What is bitrate and why does it matter?
Bitrate is how much data is used per second of video. At the same resolution, a higher bitrate keeps more detail in fast motion, fine textures and dark scenes. TikTok balances bitrate against loading speed, so two 1080p videos can look quite different.
What’s the difference between H.264 and H.265?
Both are compression formats. H.265 (HEVC) produces smaller files at the same quality but isn’t supported by some older computers. H.264 plays everywhere. Neither is visibly better once you’re watching.
Why does my download look worse than in the app?
Usually one of these is the cause:
- The creator uploaded below 1080p
- You picked the SD version to save data
- The video was re-uploaded from another platform and lost quality there
- A messaging app recompressed it when you shared it
How can I always get the best quality?
Choose the top Download HD option, check the resolution shown on the result card, and share the file as a document rather than a video in messaging apps so it isn’t recompressed. For more, see the HD downloader.
Video quality questions
Can a downloader make a TikTok sharper?
No. Upscaling adds pixels, not detail. The best a downloader can do is give you the original file untouched.
Is 60 fps available?
Only if the creator uploaded at 60 fps. Most TikToks are 30 fps.
Why are some HD files so small?
Efficient codecs like H.265 and simple scenes (talking heads, static backgrounds) need less data per second.
